Horse Riding & Wildlife Safari

All levels of riders welcome.

African Nomad Safaris are offering a horse riding holiday combined with a wildlife safari in Liwonde National Park and also time to relax on Lake Malawi.

ALL LEVELS OF RIDERS WELCOME.

With such a broad range of horses which include ex-racing thoroughbreds to Basotho ponies we can match every rider, child or adult, to the most suitable horse. Tack used is both English saddles and Australian stock saddles. Weight limit for riders is 95kg.

Riding is in the local area of forest, floodplains and beaches. Riding up to 6 hours per day for 4 days. Trips can also included overnight stays at a lodge on Lake Malawi. There is also a sand arena and polocrosse field.

All activities cater for the ability of the individual clients to offer the most enjoyable experience possible.

Itinerary

Day 1
On day of arrival you will be picked up from the airport and driven to your lodge which is in a quiet area of Lilongwe.

H/B Cluny Lodge or similar.

Day 2
After breakfast you will be driven to the stables which are approx 3 and half hours away on the lakeshore road. You will have time to settle into your room and wander around the stables to meet the horses.

F/B including soft drinks and water. Luxury accommodation at the stables.

Day 3 - 6
Four days of riding in the local area. You can also ride to the lake and have an overnight stay in a lodge on the lake. There are purpose build stables for the horses at the lodge.

Luxury accommodation at the stables and mid range lodge at the lake if doing overnight stay. F/B including soft drinks and water.

Day 7 - 8
Time to say goodbye to the horses as you head for Senga Bay to relax for 2 nights at a lodge right on the lake. The lodge has beautiful rooms, swimming pool and free canoes for you to use on the lake. You could also try out snorkelling.

F/B Safari Beach Lodge or similar.

Day 9 - 10
A short drive further down the lake to another lodge on the lakeshore. With 2 more nights to relax, maybe take out a boat to the islands or to feed the Fish Eagles.

F/B En-Suite rooms mid range. Nanchengwa Lodge or similar.

Day 11 - 13
Another short drive to one of Malawi's great parks. Liwonde National Park is abundant with wildlife including Elephant, Sable, Rhino and many different Antelope. On Day 11 you will enjoy a game drive. The next 2 days (Day 12 - 13 ) you will go on a game drives and a boat safari on the Shire River which is amazing for birdlife, Crocs, Hippos and Elephants. You will be staying at a lodge within the park staying in a safari chalet which are simple walk in safari tents with 2 single beds. Toilets and showers are in a shared abultion block. Each evening you can sit around the camp fire with a cold beer in hand!!

All meals taken at lodge. F/B Basic safari tent.

Day 14
After breakfast it's time to head back to Lilongwe. The drive back can go via Dedza Pottery where you will have time to have a good look at this fantastic Malawian pottery and time for coffee and cake! Arrive at Lilongwe and back to the lodge.

Trip Ends.

If your flight is the next day we include airport tranfers.

It is also possible to extend your trip to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia which is one of the best parks in Africa. Please ask for details.
